    I'm still waiting for some nice non-order options. It would be so cool to see a Fatemaster or Magister trying to obtain an artifact hidden in Radukar's vault, or a Darkoath warrior like Gunnar Brand and his Oathsworn needing to kill Radukar to fulfill an oath, or even a Vampire Lord from a different faction such as the Legion of Blood trying to undermine the current regime to gain control. Many reasons why non-Order people would need to take on the hordes of Ulfenkarn, and why they might even work with Order heroes in the interim. Previous Warhammer Quest games had non-Order heroes, so hopefully this one will get some too. And yes, please put the cards in WD so we can use them, rather than print them on pages and use the cards for tons of 40k tokens and AoS battleplans....

    On the wizard card, it says "if you ever run out of spells immediately draw a new spell card, ensuring that you always have at least one spell, does that mean the wizard could potentially cast a ton of spells in one turn as long as he doesn't run into a spell you have to cast at a contextual time?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring День назад

      No. You can never cast more spells in your own turn than you started that turn with (maximum 3), so if you ever draw a card from running out you aren't able to cast it that turn. Additionally, you can only cast a maximum of one spell on another player's turn, and only a few spells are "any time" spells, the rest are for use in specific situations. So you can't spam your spells and I've rarely seen someone use more than one at a time.

    very nice, how do you get rid of the musty smell you sometimes get in these old sets? Bought a copy of Atmosfear about a year ago and it stunk so hard i had to cal a Hazmat team in just to bin it 🤢

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring День назад

      Luckily these didn't have a musty smell, but it can definitely be a problem with older items. It's usually the result of mould, and prevention tends to be better than cure - keep that stuff in dry conditions. Sometimes it just needs a good airing. Leaving the parts outside in the sun does wonders. Mould can sometimes be wiped off before it gets too bad, or you can tackle it with vinegar and bleach. I've even been known to use a spray on mould remover, but you always have to check that sort of thing on an inconspicuous part of the product first. If I need to press card components flat, I moisten them with something like Febreze, then press them between sheets of greaseproof paper. It helps with the flattening process and makes them smell better too.

    Wow thanks for sharing this game . I’m not sure if it’s nostalgia or it’s because it’s where it all began for me but I love this time period too, when games workshop actually made games, unlike today I’m guessing that’s why they changed there name too warhammer, no game in that tile😂… I find GW now just that but too serious, think that’s why I like blood bowl it reminds of a different time, alit bit crazy and little but unhinged, less about the minis looking amazing and more about the games being fun.. but but maybe that’s just me.. thanks again for the video, always enjoy.

      Games Workshop don't lean into wackiness to the same degree these days, although sometimes I do see something that I think is very "old school." Regarding the Elf, when you land on a woods and just teleport between them each turn, avoiding what you need to and collecting all the good stuff, he really shines. If you're lucky enough to get a stream on a woods, you're going to get ahead pretty quickly. The fate movement kind of makes him better because it potentially helps you set up your forestwalking earlier.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring День назад

      As I said in the video, it can be good when there is stuff in the woods you need, but with the new fate movement it's quite easy for other players to land on spaces they want anyway, and spaces like magic fountains tend to get drained rather quickly now. I think players tend to avoid the woods more when the elf is in play anyway to minimise the risk. It would be a slightly better option if you could roll for movement first, and then choose to teleport if you didn't like the result.

    Dwarf is great for an early win! But... maybe not with the Dragon. How tough is he? Also, the Monk actually is a lot more powerful with the new levelling rules. Essentially +3 strength but you can trade trophies on the cheap.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring День назад

      The dwarf has won both times he has turned up in our games since playing fifth edition. I thin he's a great character. Not sure I understand what you mean about the monk being more powerful with the new leveling rules. The first time he levels strength he only needs three trophies, but then he will need four, then five, then six, same as every other character, yet no matter how much he levels his craft he will still only add three to his strength in combat. When you add in the fact he can't use weapons or armour, I still think he ends up being on the weak side of things. But other people in the comments find him quite a useful character, so opinions do vary!

    • @finelerv
      @finelerv День назад

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring What I mean is, if another character had strength 5, he'd need 6 trophies to level up. The monk essentially starts with strength 5 in battles but only needs 3 trophies to level up (then four, and so on). Sure, it's not EXACTLY Strength 5 for the purpose of breaking down doors and stuff but it functions the same early on when you're just grinding. As for not being able to use weapons it DOES matter, but he basically has a +3 sword! It gets annoying when you can't use a Rune Sword but his mind is his weapon.

    I remember playing this at a friends house when I was 10 or 11. Felt incomprehensible to me at the time so never bothered to follow up on it once I started getting into Heroquest and Space Crusade. I did pick up the PC version of the game with all the expansions and that did seem like it could be a really fun boardgame to play so I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this. Assuming we get the Dungeon and City expansions at some point this could well be the game I decide to get into with my group after we're done with Heroquest. The group has only just started meeting up again after about 25+ years so we're really just enjoying playing Heroquest like we used to every Saturday when we were in junior school together!

      HeroQuest is such a great way to reconnect with the hobby. It's just so accessible and so much fun. Talisman would be a great one to play with a group who don't take things too seriously and aren't looking for something particularly taxing - roll, move, and laugh as disaster unfolds.

I fondly remember using the Pteradon to do exactly as you suggest ABNB, dropping one of my sister's explorers with a gold piece into the swamp one move away from the swamp monster! I don't remember the temple so I guess given our ages that may have had a "mishap" or else it was a bit of a pain to put together and have it stay together so we gave up on it. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to relive a bit of my childhood!

    So, is Cursed City worth picking up in 2024 after all the controversy and smoke has cleared? Is it still insanely expensive to pick up all of the additional expansions and models?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring 2 дня назад

      The game just didn't get the care it should have had. Expansions are probably going to set you back £40+ each, and that's with no miniatures. There has been quite a lot of extra content in White Dwarf which isn't going to be so easy to track down now, and again, you are looking at a big expense if you want the official miniatures. I doubt they will do much more with it now. It 's just a hard game to recommend, even though I like it a lot.

    • @chenhan22

The die having the talisman symbol as the 6 is just stupid, it should be the 1 as before. No doubt this will be a popular version especially if the new publishers do plenty of expansions.

      The original rules for dying and for turning into a toad are included, so that's not an issue. The new rules for levelling up are easily ignored - although I think they are better as it gives an early bump to stats and keeps the game chugging along at a nice pace. And if you want to do the crown of command ending, you can easily tag that on after killing the dragon. I actually like the Talisman face now being the six. Talismans are supposed to be powerful artifacts, so to me it makes more sense for it to be the six. The first expansion is out this October, adding co-op play, new heroes, and new win conditions. So, that should be very interesting. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

    I like this new edition and I will buy it but I hate warrior art. Can't tell if its he/she/it or whatever... I will print my own warrior I guess

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring 2 дня назад

      The warrior is referred to as "she" in the biog and has long hair, but both the miniature and art are androgynous enough that I think you could easily read it either way. I thought they gave the warrior a slightly classical, romantic look, like in artwork such as Knight of the Flowers, which I rather like, but I can understand people wanting a more "war-like" warrior instead.

    Funny about the new progress for stats: We have had exactly that house rule since the 80:s to 'compress' the scale progress so that and allow stragglers to catch up. The artwork orientation is crap though.

    I own a complete version of this game with different artwork on the front of the box. The Hulk is front and center on the version that I own. I've never played the game, but I have the miniatures, ruined warehouse and battleground pieces on display in my nerd cave. They display very, very nicely.

      Talisman has been produced under licence since fourth edition. Fantasy Flight Games lost the rights quite a few years back when they parted ways with Games Workshop putting the game in limbo, but Avalon Hill now have the rights. Hopeful we might eventually see new editions of games like Fury of Dracula and DungeonQuest from them as well.

    I have the digital Anniversary edition of Talisman on Switch with all the expansions which is really well done. Do you think it's worth buying this 5th edition physical board game? NIce review btw.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring 3 дня назад

      If you had all of fourth edition in a physical copy it would probably be an easy pass. If you only have a digital copy it may be worth considering if you think it would see table time. It is a great game for a light, fun evening with friends. Also, Avalon Hill are taking it in some new directions with the first expansion being co-op so there will be some new things to explore.
